Robert Harold White

Robert Harold White, 92, of Barberton, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018.Born July 15, 1925, to the late Floyd and Grace White of Westport, Tennessee.Tennessee and family where always close to dad’s heart.  Dad joined the Marine Corps before his 18th birthday, and proudly fought for our freedom in the South Pacific in World War II.  Dad become a corporal on Saipan, and was told he made captain on Okinawa, but the stripes never came and the war ended.  When the war ended, dad returned to Westport, where work was scarce.  He headed to Ohio, where relatives helped him find work.  He moved to Barberton, and had several jobs before finding his passion on the Akron Barberton Belt Line, where he retired after 36 years.Dad never knew a stranger, and would help anyone at any time.  Dad was proud to be a member of the Norton Church of Christ.Dad was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Ray White of Westport, TN and his wife, Mary Jane White of Barberton.  Survived by his brother, Percy of Camden, Tennessee; his children, Gary (Vicky) White of Cuyahoga Falls, Rick (Deb) White of Canal Fulton, Ron White (Leona McClain) of Barberton and Janet Lynn Holik of Barberton; seven grandkids; six great-grandkids and two great-great-grandkids; along with other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Jackson Ridge and the staff that took great care of dad for almost a year.Following dads wishes, a private service has taken place.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jackson Ridge/Creekside Memory, 7055 High Mill Ave., N.W., Jackson Twp., Ohio 44614, in dads honor.Farewell Captain…Semper Fi
