Thomas W. Schmitt Sr., 65, entered heaven’s gate on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie J. Odom Stokes and John W. Sc hmitt Sr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Liz and Dick Heffelfinger. Tom leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Shari; daughter, Debra Markham; son, Thomas W. Schmitt Jr. (Megan) and grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Ashley, Amber, Autumn, Colin, Alex and Tyler; sister-in-law, Sue Crawford; nieces and nephews, Tina (Tim) Henderson, Noella (Bill) Dolly, Crystal Charnes, Anthony, Timothy, Daniel, Aine, Cory, Christina, Kayla, Drew, Luke, Joshua, Tyler, Chloe and Tanner.Tom proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Garfield Memorial Post #566.  He retired from Midwest Rubber and was a loving Papaw, who enjoyed bragging about his grandchildren; having long talks with Anthony about cars and their military life experiences; and teaching Crystal to enjoy a good western movie.Tom was an expert when it came to movies.  You could set the scene and he would tell you the title.  Tom was unique and if something needed fixed, he could always come up with a solution.Special thanks to Summa at Home, Dawn Thompson RN, Crystal Charnes for helping with Tom’s care, Pastor Jim Roma, Veterans Administration and the staff at Summa Barberton Hospice. Friends may call Saturday, December 23rd from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Roma officiating.  Burial to follow at Lakewood Cemetery with military honors conducted by Firestone VFW 3383.
