Alonzo “Higgie” Higgins, 68, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 after a brief illness.He was born in Akron on July 6, 1949. Alonzo was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving during the Viet Nam War. He worked for Metro Transit, Owner/Operator of Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning, Welcast Plastics, Prestwick Country Club, and until his passing his son’s lawn business, Pat’s Pro Lawn and Acme #14. He and Patrick enjoyed remote car racing for many years, where they met and became friends with many. He had a gift of fixing, tinkering, remodeling and building anything from dog houses, fences, decks to garages.Preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Higgins; mother and step-father,Wilma Jean (Hughes) and Paul Bair; sister, Patty Greising and brother, Michael E. Higgins. Alonzo is survived by his son, Patrick (Ashley Griffin); sister, Sandy (Dave) Popiel; nephews and nieces, Michael (Laurie) Shaffer, Robin (Jeff) Casey, Tabitha and Ray Greising, Nicholas, Erika and Michael Higgins Jr.; along with great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends and of course his best girl, his “grand-dogger”, Miley.Funeral service will be held Friday, February 23rd at 12:30 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 with Pastor Mike Prebynski officiating. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors.
