Robert R. Masters, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Pleasant View Care Center.He was born on April 27, 1924 in Cameron, W. Virginia. His family moved to Ohio when he was a small child, where they lived in Barberton, then moved to Rogues Hollow. His parents signed a waiver for him to join the Navy at the age of 16, where he served his country for 3 years, 11 months and 28 days. During his naval career, he served on LST 53 and LST 1082. He was on seven major beach landings from Normandy to Okinawa during his tour of duty in World War II.Robert retired 30 years ago from IBEW Local 306 of Akron, as an electrician with 35 plus years of service.Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marion; wife, Phyllis; son, David Lee; daughter, Linda and stepson, Gary. Bob is survived by son, Robert (Lisa) Masters of Joseph, Oregon; daughters, Rebecca (Ronald) Fletcher of Wooster and Susan, (Phillip) Nunn of Georgia; four stepchildren, Cheryl (Dennis) Stormer of Barberton, Diane (Larry) Mannion of New Franklin, Larry (Julie) Eagon and Terry (Donna) Eagon all of Tuscon, Arizona; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard (Kay) Masters of Smithville and Jack Masters of Cuyahoga Falls, along with other family members and friends.Funeral service will be held Monday, June 18th at 1 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 with Pastor Mike Prebynski officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors, conducted by Firestone VFW 3383.
