Allan Jackson Stevenson, aged 82, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, March 20, 2021. He was born in Barberton on March 4, 1939 and was a Graduate of Barberton High School. After he graduated from Barberton High School he attended Florida State University and the University of Akron to play Golf and complete his degree. While at the University of Akron, he helped lead the Zips to the 1961 Ohio Conference title with an 11-0 conference record. He became the only Zip to win the OC individual crown by shooting 74 and 79 in British Open conditions at Firestone Country Club. That year he paced UA with a 75 average. The Zips finished fourth in the Ohio intercollegiate Championship behind a Jack Nicklaus led Ohio State team.He also became the only Zip to capture the 72 hole Akron District Medal Play championship later that year. The Zips fell to 17-2 the next year ending a 24 game win streak against Wittenberg. He was inducted into the University of Akron Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He continued to play the game he loved after graduation, and had many successes in local Club championships and Amateur tournaments. After graduating from the University of Akron in 1962 with an education degree, he married Patricia Takacs and had sons Allan J. and Scot. He worked for 34 years in the insurance business, the majority as a claims adjuster for Westfield Companies. He was a proud Barberton resident and loved to follow the Magics in every sport. He was preceded in death by his Father Allan, his mother Naomi and his step Mother Florence and is survived by sons Allan J. (Jane) and Scot (Diana) and grandchildren Allan James, James, Ava, Joshua and Alex. He always had a word of advice and encouragement for his grandchildren and the young people in his life. Park Ave., Barberton OH 44203 on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 5:00 PM with a service at 6:30 PM, Todd McKenney officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barberton City Schools Synthetic Turf Fund at the Barberton Community Foundation.
