Barbara Jane "Janie" Gunter

On Saturday, October 18, 2025 the world lost a beautiful soul. Barbara Jane “Janie” Gunter, 79, passed away after a short illness. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and countless family gatherings centered around her kitchen. Janie was united in marriage to Michael Howard Gunter, the love of her life, and together they shared 63 years of marriage filled with unwavering commitment and companionship. A professional dog groomer, Barb was the owner/operator of Precious Pup Dog Grooming where she cared for countless beloved pets until her retirement nine years ago. Janie was the matriarch of her family and the heart of every gathering. She was known for her generosity and for preparing enough food to feed everyone - and then some! She is survived by her husband, Michael; her daughter, Terri Sims and her husband, Carl; her son, Glen Gunter and his wife, Angel; and her son, Thomas and his wife, Dawn; brother, Jeff and his wife, Ilah Walk; and her beloved Newfoundland, “Bear.” She is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her strength, determination, and sense of humor. Janie’s love was expressed through her care of others and the moments spent gathered preparing meals in her kitchen. Although she will be deeply missed, her legacy will live on in the family she so dearly loved. Her hands made meals; her love made memories; and her presence made her house feel like a home.Janie’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton. A private graveside service will be held for her family at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
