Darlene Holmes, (80) born on August 1, 1941 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at The Sanctuary Nursing Home in Wadsworth. She was on hospice care for a week before her passing with her family at her bedside. She was born in Cumberland, Maryland and moved to Barberton 1964. Darlene was known for her devotion and dedication to her husband Frank of 54 years. She loved each of her children and grandchildren with unwavering dedication. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She was happiest and took pride on holidays when the kids and grandkids would gather in her modest house. The heat was set uncomfortably at 80 degrees. The dress attire was always light weight clothing accompanied by many trips to the porch to cool off. She was full of fire and spunk and an ornery sense of humor. She was always wresting with the grandkids; she was a kid at heart. Darlene was employed as a manager at KFC for 20 years working in Cuyahoga Falls, and Barberton retiring in 2005. She was recognized for her hard work and dedication many times with accolades in honor of her merit. She loved her job and being a manager. Several years after retiring she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and courageously fought the battle for 9 years. She loved singing and dancing to Elvis and oldies. She even stole the show on Facebook in a dance rendition if “Kiki Do You Love Me” with daughter Kathy and granddaughters Kayla and Mallori. She will be missed and remembered dearly by her three children and 13 grandchildren. She leaves behind three children to mourn her departure: daughter, Carol (Tony) Basham of Kettering, Ohio.
