Earl R. Wykoff, 77, who was loved by all, left this world in the early hours of Thursday, May 27, 2021 after a long illness. He was a life resident of Akron/Barberton. After graduating high school Earl joined the U.S. Navy where he served for five years leaving as a Radioman Second Class. His entire time after training was spent on the USS Newport News CA-148 Flagship for the 2nd fleet where he handled all the top secret messages for the Atlantic Fleet. When the ship was in Norfolk he spent every weekend he was off to come back to Akron. When not able to go home, Earl would always enjoy going to his favorite Italian restaurant for spaghetti in Norfolk. After his time in the Navy Earl returned to Akron to join the Police Force in 1966 retiring in 1997 after 31 years of service, a job he truly loved. Later in life Earl enjoyed spending time at “The Woods” in Southern Ohio hunting and relaxing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marie Wykoff. Earl is survived by his wife of 29 years, Diane; children, Tom Wykoff, Becky (Norm) Walker and Mike Green; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Fred (Diane) Wykoff; sister, Margie (Jim) Ross;nieces, nephews and also Diane’s family which became his family, Darlene Hensley, Debbie Brown and Ron Long. Earl’s funeral service will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 at 12 Noon at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 with Chaplain Chip Westfall officiating. Burial to follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive family and friends on Sunday, June 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. and also on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
