Frank Holmes Obituary

Frank L. Holmes, (87) born on January 5, 1934 passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at The Sanctuary Nursing Home in Wadsworth. He was born and raised in Alabama and moved to Barberton as a teenager. Frank was known for his devotion to his wife of 54 years, Darlene, as he helped care for her in her struggle with Alzheimer’s. Darlene was devoted to him and was by his side when he passed away. He was a member of the Barberton Fraternal Order of Police, where he had many lifetime friends. He belonged to the Rubber City CB Club.  Frank was a huge fan of NASCAR racing, Dale Earnhardt and the Barberton Speedway, where he was once awarded “Employee of the Year. “ Over his lifetime, he was employed by Norka Beverage Corporation, Barberton Speedway and Newspaper Transportation, from which he retired. In his later years, Frank loved to frequent Barberton MAC-Donald’s as he would call it and sit with the other seniors, enjoying coffee. During the building of the new Akron Amazon facility, he would drive by a couple times a days to watch the progress and then call family with updates. He will be missed and remembered dearly by his three children and 13 grandchildren, who rarely left his house without peanut butter crackers or a couple of Huntington pens. Frank leaves behind three children to mourn his departure:  son, Richard Holmes of Barberton, daughter, Kathy (Roger) White of Barberton, daughter, Carol (Tony) Basham of Kettering, Ohio.  Also, he leaves behind his sister-in-law, Theresa Holmes of Barberton. He leaves behind his six grandchildren:  Dan (Rie) Miller of Titusville, Florida, Kymberly Holmes of Boston, Massachusetts, Krysten Holmes of Barberton, Crystal (Jeremy) Hamiel of Kettering, Samantha (Mike) Head of Kettering, Ohio, and Ryan Basham of Kettering. Great-grandchildren include: Danny Miller Jr., Mallori Miller, MyKayla Pestotnik, Kaleb Poling, Kamden Holmes-Trent, Lexi and Eli Hamiel. He was preceded in death by his father, J. T. Holmes, mother, Elsie Mae Manning, and brother, Jimmy Holmes. The family would like to thank the entire staff at The Sanctuary Nursing Home for taking such great care of Frank. In respect for his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service for family is planned for April, with Pastor Paul Pamer, Apostolic Church, officiating.
