George David Ulichney, 79, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer with his family by his side. He was born on December 2, 1945 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Joseph and Olga (Ratay) Ulichney. George was a graduate of Barberton High School, Class of 1964. He was drafted to Vietnam in 1965 serving in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge he married his high school sweetheart, Sandy K. Welshhans on May 4, 1968. He worked at the Ohio Brass until its closing and retired from Wright Tool and Forge in Barberton. George was a “simple man who lived a simple life”. He devoted his life to his wife and family. He enjoyed his trains, walking around Lake Anna and maintaining his fish aquarium. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe and granddaughter, Kayla Mapel. George is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sandy; daughters, Cheryl (Neil) Mapel, Carol Thomas (Jeff Harris) and Laurie (Brian) Morrison; grandchildren, Adam (Lauren) Mapel, Paige (Josh) Leemaster, Emilie and Matthew Thomas, Tiffany (Kyle) Forsythe, Nicole (Jud) Daniel and Tim Morrison; great-grandchildren, Jayla, Allayah, Carlee, Scarlett, Adalynn, Carter, Berklee and Reese. George’s family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
