Gloria Gay (Toney) Deeds, 85, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.
Gloria was born June 2, 1941, to Herbert and Lena Toney in Raleigh County, West Virginia. She loved doing crafts and taught knitting, crocheting and quilting at Barberton High School night classes for many years. She created many beautiful quilts, including hand embroidered Night Before Christmas quilts for her children and grandchildren. She loved crocheting baby sweaters for showers and sharing her love for others through her talent.
She fiercely loved her family and was each of their biggest fans. She was so proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and attended concerts, marathons, graduations and any event available, always ready to celebrate with her family.
Gloria retired from Adjust Post Manufacturing and was a member of Norton Baptist Church for 56 years where she faithfully served by teaching Sunday School, Bible school and was involved in Awana clubs for many years. Of all the things that Gloria loved, she loved the Lord first and foremost. She accepted Christ at a young age and lived her whole life for His glory. Bold in her witness, she never missed an opportunity to tell a loved one or complete stranger about the Lord. She was a faithful warrior and if she said she was praying for you, she was.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Flora Kay Burroughs; sisters, Patty Hall, Billye Lowery, and Olga Layne; and brothers, Jimmy Wells, Richard Toney, Roger Toney, Ronald Toney, and Ralph Toney.
She is survived by her husband and love of her life, David Sr, to whom she was married for over 60 years; children, David Jr. (Cheryl), and Dianna; sisters, Lois Jackson of Charleston, WV and Phyllis Spencer of Prosperity WV; grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, and Breanna Deeds; special niece, Sue Patrick; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her memory will be forever cherished and each of us will miss all the beauty she brought to our world.
The family would like to thank Summa Hospice, (Megan and June) and the team for their care of Gloria in her final months.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 with Pastor Dwight Strickland officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Gloria’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m.
