James “Jim” William Reed, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Jim was born on July 12, 1931, in Brownton, West Virginia to the late Coy Reed and Metta (Hefner) Reed and grew up in Valley Head, West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. K-6 Airbase as an airline mechanic from 1952 to 1955. He moved to Ohio in 1955 and had been a Barberton resident since 1956. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 42 years of service. Jim loved his hobby of woodworking/ cabinetry making and enjoyed making cabinets, furniture and any special requests for his family and church. He made several musical instruments. He loved holding jamming sessions in his wood working shop. Jim was a member of Johnson United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He served on many committees over the years, sang in the church choir and was instrumental in the current building. He and several other retired members fell the trees off the back property and milled them so that the cherry and ash could be used in the church. He made the rosettes and fluted trim woodwork in the lower level of the church. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Dott and Fred Ware Sr. and Janice Elaine and Frank Stotts Sr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Troy and Jesse Mace; brother-in-law, Keith Mace and aunt, Mary Dott Hefner. Jim is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Naomi (Mace) Reed; sister, Martha Jean Reed; daughters, Kim (Bill) Nickerson of Coventry Township, Debbie Zwick of Barberton and Beverly (Tom) Kirkpatrick of Barberton; son, David (Wendi) Reed of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Jennifer Pearson; Jessica, Matthew and Amy Zwick; Troy, James and Korra Reed; Ryan (Shelley) Kirkpatrick and Amber (Brandon) Marshall; great-grandchildren, Savannah Collins; Abby Schrader and Caleb Kirkpatrick; Titus and Cason Marshall; adopted granddaughter, Destinee Singleton; adopted great-grandchild, Mason Singleton; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Jim’s funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Johnson United Methodist Church, 3409 Johnson Road, Norton, Ohio 44203, with Pastor Tim Monteith and Rev. Dr. Scott Wilson officiating. Burial to follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors. Jim’s family will receive friends and family on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 and also on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Johnson United Methodist Church or Marine Toys for Tots. If you would like to bring an unwrapped toy to the service, there will be a Toys for Tots donation box in the church lobby and the toys will be taken to the Toys for Tots drop off site at the Goodyear Blimp Hangar.
