John J. Adkins, Jr.

John J. Adkins Jr., 45, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 19, 2026. He was born in Barberton on March 31, 1981, to the late John Sr. and Linda Adkins. John was raised in Clinton, Ohio and was a graduate of Northwest High School, where he excelled in football. He continued playing football in college for the Dragons at Tiffin University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. John was a United States Airforce veteran serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He is survived by sisters, Kimberly (Timothy) Hawkins and Traci (Rob) Heavilin; nieces and nephews, Tim Jr., Nicholas, Dylan, Rob Jr., Brooke, Naomi, and Hope and their families; along with other family members and friends.

John’s family will receive friends on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203.  A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial with military honors to follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
