John T. MacKay Jr., 91, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025. He was born on January 12, 1934 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Antoinette and John T. MacKay Sr. John was a resident of Norton/Barberton. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. John was employed by Henry’s Shoes in Barberton for many years and retired from Lucky Shoes. He was a past member of Norton Lyons Club and Barberton Moose. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Shirley and sister, Joan Maloney. John is survived by his children, John Thomas III (Deborah), Michael James and Melissa A. (Stephen) Daisher; grandchildren, Caitlyn (Tony Leming) MacKay, Jarrod (Brittany) Barnes, Taylor and Jacob Nemeth; great-grandchildren, Remi Rice and Violet Barnes; siblings, Paulette (Chris) Pavone, Warren (Helene) MacKay and Mark (Margaret) MacKay; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Ray Leach and the staff of Leach’s who not only delivered meals but also the friendship that meant the world to our dad, and a special thank you to Barbara Cannon who took such wonderful care of dad when he was still in his home. Also the Gardens of Cuyahoga Falls for their love and compassion that they showed for that last year and a half that dad was there. John’s family will receive friends on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 3 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203 with Jason Seiberling officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 1:45 p.m. Please meet at the cemetery 10 minutes prior. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnel to Towers.
