Leona Mae Headrick 93, was born May 18, 1930 and passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in her 94th year. Mom was president of the Grill Elementary School PTA for many years and a study hall monitor at the Norton Middle School. She also was very active in the Norton High School Scholarship Program. Mae and her husband, Jim resided in New Franklin. Mae was well known in the restaurant services in the Norton area. She owned her own restaurant, “Ji-Mae’s” with her brother, Jim. She also worked at Kippy’s, Big Hamburger and Reiter Dairy. Mom was partnered with her husband Jim in the family business, Headrick Construction and Excavation and H&H Pipe. Mom loved singing in the church choir and dancing and listening to live music at the Barberton VFW and Barberton Moose Club. Her passion in life was always her love for family and celebrations with family and friends. Mae never knew a stranger and passed along her joy for life wherever she went.Preceded in death by her husband, James Headrick and her mother and father, Myra (Greathouse) and Cecil Henderson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence, James Clayton and Elvin Henderson. Mom was the oldest of nine children and is survived by brothers, Cecil, Clifford, Phil and sisters, Lois and Kathy. Mae is also survived by daughters, Shirley (Richard-deceased) Stephens, Barb (Bill) Ramsay, Patty (Chris) Neidert and son, James (Manuela) Headrick; grandchildren, Melanie (Ben) Mathieson, Tim (Kaila) Neidert, David Headrick, Matthew Headrick and three great-grandchildren, Mara Mathieson, Owen Mathieson and Luca James Neidert. Special nephew, David (Kathy) Headrick, along with many other nieces and nephews. Mom was the strongest woman we have ever known and taught us to always take care of “people” before everything else, just as she did all of her life.Thank you mom for your generous and loving spirit and for all you did for us. We will love you forever! Mae’s funeral service will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 at 12 Noon at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203 with Rev. John Henniger officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of her service.
