Mae Packan Obituary

Mae (Hinman) Packan, 108, passed peacefully at home with loved ones by her side on Saturday, December 10, 2022. She was born April 16, 1914 in Akron, Ohio. Mae loved spending time with her Grandpa, the Doctor, making house calls by horse and buggy in Greensburg, Ohio. Mae was a teacher for Coventry High School where she taught for 43 years. She loved her students and many kept in touch throughout the years. Mae volunteered as a patient advocate at Barberton Hospital. She was a member at the Akron Woman’s City Club and attended Akron University, where she was a member of the ADPI Sorority and a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Akron. Mae enjoyed traveling and has been around the world twice and she loved going out west and visiting New York City. She also enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland sport teams and especially the Cleveland Browns where she was a season ticket holder from 1946 into the 80’s. Mae enjoyed going to the Blossom Music Center to see the Cleveland Orchestra. Preceded in death by her mother and father, Ralph and Annie Hinman; husband, John Packan and brother, Robert Hinman (Marie). Mae is survived by Julie (William) Mikolajczyk, Michael (Kathy) Hinman, Susan Bechemer (Mel, deceased), Christine Hinman (Patrick, deceased), Timothy (Gayle) Hinman, John (Judy) Tatum, Karen Williams (Fred, deceased), Philip Tatum, Donald (Barbara) Braden, Nicholas (Karen) Packan, Dorothy Epps, (Gregory Packan, deceased); sister-in-law, Betty (Richard) Lowman and many, many wonderful friends. Mae will be greatly missed by in her words, the perfect lady, Victoria (Sandy) and Glenn (Santa), Kathleen, Bob and Becky and her two favorite puppies, “Tyson” and “Bear”. Per Mae’s wishes there will be no funeral services. Just be kind to one another.
