Mary Smith

Mary Smith, 69, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023 after a two year battle with cancer. She was born in Croatia on May 3, 1954 and immigrated to the United States in 1956. Mary was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and the University of Akron. She was a member St. Augustine Catholic Church where she was active with the holy hour program, funeral lunch committee, “Marthas” and also Women of Faith. Preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Anna Nuss. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rod; son, David (Betsy) Smith; daughter, Kristna (Shaun) Hinssen; grandchildren, Samantha, Alexander and Madeline; along with other relatives and friends. Mary truly loved her family especially watching her grandchildren playing sports.The family would like to thank the staff at Cooper Cancer Center and Summa Hospice for all the care Mary received. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth Street, N.W., Barberton.  Inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Mary’s family will receive friends from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary’s memory to St. Augustine Catholic Church.
