Michael "Mike" D. Burnette

Michael “Mike” D. Burnette, 76, went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, April 5, 2024. He was born on September 19, 1947 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Frank and Addie Burnette. Mike graduated from Barberton High School in 1965 and enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Mike graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and later obtained his Master’s Degree in Education. He spent his entire career as an educator, starting off in the Barberton City School District at Washington Elementary School and coached basketball at U.L. Light Middle School from 1972 to 1973. Mike was then hired by the Revere Local School District in 1973 and taught another 39 years. He was the long-time Revere High School Varsity Girls Basketball Coach and Revere Middle School Track and Field Coach. In 2012, he retired from Revere Middle School with a combined 40 years of service. From 1978 to 1982, Mike served as a member of the Barberton City School District Board of Education. He was also a long-time member of the Akron Baptist Temple. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Addie Burnette and brother, Marco (6/4/23) (Karen) Burnette. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 23 years, Patricia Burnette; children, Aaron Burnette, Ryan (Mandie) Burnette, and Teri Moats; step-sons, Eric (Tina) Zipay and Ethan Zipay. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Zach, Chase, Abby, Frank, Nico, Alexa, Brian, and Brenna. Mike was also made a great-grandpa just four days after his passing by baby Evie. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203. Mike’s funeral service will be held immediately after visitation on April 17th at 12 Noon with Pastor Dale Saylor officiating. Burial will follow at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio with military honors.
