Peggyan R. Helmstedter, 93, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at Summa City Hospital from complications of stroke. Peggyan was born in Akron on December 12, 1932, to Ivan and Edith Staire. She was a lifelong resident of the Akron/Barberton area, graduated from Coventry High School in 1951 and married George A. Helmstedter in 1953.
Preceded in death by her husband, George; sister, Ivene Moats; and brother, Charles Staire. Left to cherish her memory are son, Barry (and ex-wife Kathy Cameron) of Akron; daughter, Sherri (Tony) Stevenson of Nolensville, TN; brother, Forrest “Buck” (Patty) Staire of Barberton; grandchildren, Eric (Ann Marie) of Tallmadge and Brandi (Ryan) Winnett of Uniontown; many nieces and nephews, three great-grandchildren; dear friend, Pat Warner and countless other friends.
Peggyan loved life and enjoyed growing up on a farm, helping raise her two children, waitressing at Laconi’s restaurants from the 1970’s - 2000, spending time with her two grandchildren and playing euchre.
Our family would like to extend special thanks to Summa Hospital Hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Haven of Rest or your favorite charity.
Following her wishes, there will be no funeral service. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Hillside Memorial Cemetery.
