Richard “Dick” L. Gleghorn, Sr., 91, passed away on Saturday, May 27th, 2023. Born in Akron, Ohio on July 21, 1931. He lived in the Kenmore neighborhood until moving to Barberton, Ohio in 2005 and lived the remainder of his life there. He graduated from Hower Vocational High School and the University of Akron. Dick worked for the City of Akron for 46 years and was the Superintendent of the Sewer Division for the last 27 years of his career before retiring on March 1, 1995. Upon retirement he worked as a starter at Turkeyfoot Golf Course and Chenoweth Golf Course for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for over 50 years and since 2005 was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Dick was an avid golfer and loved to deer hunt. He enjoyed playing poker with his hunting buddies. He enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of the Cleveland teams, especially the Cavaliers. He enjoyed reading books. He loved taking vacations to the Ocean and his favorite spots were Virginia Beach, Cape Cod and the Wildwood/Cape May areas. He also enjoyed a simple day trip to Geneva-on-the Lake and Lake Erie. Dick really enjoyed spending time with everyone at family gatherings. He was a member of many clubs including The Turkeyfoot Sportsman’s Club and The Hungarian Club. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace; siblings: Marie (Berle), Eileen (Arnold), Jean (Louis), Helen (Joseph), Tom (Peggy), David (Mary). He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Anna; children; Debbie Burdette (Herb), Richard (Tina), Roger (Cindy), Lisa (Donny); grandchildren, Brian (Kelly), Laura, Andrea (Alex), Nicole (Mo), Steve (Ariana) and Marcy: great-grandchildren, Vivian, Benjamin and Sebastian and multiple nieces, nephews and friends. Dick’s family will receive friends and family on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 6th St. N.W, Barberton. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
