Robert (Rob) Carpenter Obituary

Robert passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at his home. Rob was a graduate of Barberton High School, Class of 1981 and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Architecture. He earned a Master’s degree in Architecture from Yale University.  He had a fellowship to the University of Michigan where he taught architecture. He also taught at the University of New Mexico.  After moving back to Ohio, he worked as a landscape architect for Donzell’s Garden Center.  In recent years, he discovered a passion for cooking and became a chef for various restaurants. One of Rob’s passions was art and sculpture.  He created and gifted many humorous, thoughtful and insightful works. Rob’s art won numerous awards and honorable mentions in local and state contests. We are lucky to have his art as a lasting legacy. Rob loved his family and especially his nieces and nephews. He was the funniest uncle EVER, and they adored him. Every visit with him resulted in hilarious escapades that no parent would ever think to do and happy memories. For example, there was the time when the kids would lay on the floor, and he would try to squirt Hershey’s syrup in their mouths from above. You can imagine the squeals of laughter, not to mention the ensuing mess!! Or the time his four year old nephew told Rob that he loved Bon Jovi, because he had heard his dad say it. We came home to a toddler wearing a headband, tank top and tights, rain boots, hair spiked up several inches with gel, singing “You Give Love a Bad Name”, living his best life pretending to be Bon Jovi with his uncle. These memories and so many more will make us smile, laugh, and keep Rob’s memory alive. He leaves behind to miss him terribly, his father and mother, Jim and Cathy Carpenter; his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Swee-Wan Carpenter of Karana Downs, Australia; his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and John Wooldredge of Stow; nieces and nephews, Alexandra, Olivia, and Evan Wooldredge; and Boh, Tyler, Dylan and Mei-Ling Carpenter. Heartfelt thanks to special friends, Jeanie and Gwen. Rob’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m., Pastor Dave Haydu officiating. In lieu of flowers, if so inclined, please make a donation in Rob’s name to any animal adoption agency.
