Ross Grimes Obituary

Ross E. Grimes passed away on December 6, 2022 at the age of 86 with his loving wife by his side. Ross was born in Cadiz, Ohio on September 30, 1936 to the late Mary and Wilbur Grimes. Ross graduated from Scio High School in 1956. In addition to his parents, Ross was proceeded in death by his daughter Lori Partin, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and step father John Davis. Ross is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Donna (née Wagner). Ross and Donna began their relationship in the 7th grade as junior high sweethearts. Also, survived by sons, Ross D. “Dan” (Diane) and Curt (Michelle). Grandchildren, Kris (Stephanie), Andy (Becky), James (Alisha), Jennifer Fedler (Cody), Amanda Partin, Alyssa Partin, Katie Partin, Cory (Rachel) and Zach (Emily).  10 Great Grandchildren, son-in-law Jeff Partin, nieces, nephews, cousins and brother-in-law Robert Byrd. Ross retired from East Ohio Gas Co in 1994 with 37 years of service. He spent many years working with the EOG Akron Credit Union, was President of his local AARP group and was a life member of Johnson United Methodist Church, Barberton, Ohio. After retirement, Ross and Donna loved to travel with their local AARP group. Spending many summers camping at Tappan Lake and enjoying the friendships of their special “Tappan family”. Ross also enjoyed taking road trips to Amish country or to just take a drive, always taking a different route home. Ross was a lifelong fan of all sports, whether watching, playing or coaching. He rooted for the Indians, Browns, Cavs, OSU football and any team his sons and grandchildren played for or coached. His favorite player was Bob Feller, whom he had the opportunity to chat with several times during spring training in Tucson. Ross loved listening to the games on his radio, while watching on tv, all the while tuning out Donna and everything else around him. His favorite football player was Chuck Bednarik who he honored by wearing his number 60 during his football playing days for Scio High. Ross loved to squirrel and deer hunt, missing his target more often than hitting. But never missing a good nap in the woods. Ross played in the Silver Softball league for many years. Always enjoying the opportunity to hang out with the guys and brag about all those highlight plays. Dad never met a stranger; he could strike up a conversation with anyone and had the unique ability of remembering names. Everywhere he went he knew someone. Dad loved baked goods, especially anything Mom made, maple “Long Johns” and a dozen ears of sweet corn. The family would like to share a special thank you to Lois Stover, Kathleen Frey, and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, Joanne with Visiting Angels and special neighbors Katy, James and Stephanie for all the love, support and assistance you provided. Visitation will be held at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home Barberton, Ohio on December 12, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
