Samuel L. Houston, 92, of Auburndale, Florida, passed through Heaven’s gates on April 18, 2026, at Good Shepherd Hospice House.
He was born on March 13, 1934, in Barberton, Ohio, to Clyde and Virginia Houston. Sam proudly served his country in the United States Army, including time stationed in Iceland. He later dedicated many years of service to Reiter Dairy in Barberton, Ohio, where he retired as a respected plant supervisor.
A devoted man of faith, Sam was a faithful member of the First Church of God in Winter Haven, Florida. He found great joy in traveling, listening to gospel music, and living life to the fullest. One of his greatest passions was riding his motorcycle, which he continued to enjoy up to the age of 88 alongside his loving companion, Linda Snyder.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Virginia Houston; his first wife, Wilma Houston; his second wife, Sandy Houston; his brother, Richard Houston; his son, Gene (“Geno”) Houston; his sister, Peggy Kenzie; and his grandson, Aaron Petzold.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Holly (Doug) King; his cherished buddy, Cooper King; his devoted companion, Linda Snyder; his stepdaughter, Cindi Russell; his brother, Harry Houston; and his sisters, Regina Marquez, Judy Dronebarger, and Shirley Denney. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Krista (Dawson) Clayton, Ross Kennedy, Jason Kennedy, Gene Hilberg, and Paige Russell; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Morgan Clayton, Kamden Kennedy, and Heather Davis, a special niece whom he raised; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on June 20, officiated by Pastor Kenny Howard at the First Church of God in Winter Haven, Florida. Burial will take place at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburndale, Florida, whose compassionate care meant so much to Sam and his family.
Sam will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his daughter Holly, who shared a close and special bond with him, and Linda Snyder, his loving companion.
