Shirley Bird, 93, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Born December 11, 1932 in Wooster, Ohio, to Kenneth and Lillian Werntz. Shirley lived a full and meaningful life centered on family, hard work and adventure. Together with her beloved late husband, Russell, she co-owned Bird Industrial Supply. Shirley and Russell raised a close knit, family and found joy in traveling together. Shirley especially loved her yearly vacations to Branson, Missouri with her grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Russell; brother, Jerry; son, David and grandson, Christopher. Shirley is survived by her children, daughter, Sheryl (Donald) Scalf; son, Dennis (Cheryl) Bird, daughter, Patti (Buster) Bowsher and daughter-in-law Denise; grandchildren, Mandi (Kyle), Russell (Jessi), Hillary (Tom), Nick (Jenny), Jennifer, Allison (David), Kristie (Matthew), Bradley (Beth), Brent (Katie) and 19 great-grandchildren with the 20th on the way. Friends and family may call starting at 10 AM. on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025 at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5451 South Cleveland-Massillon Roa, Norton, OH 44203. Funeral service commencing at 11 AM, Rev. Jon Carpenter officiating. Internment immediately following at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron. In lieu of flowers memorials in Shirley’s name can be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
