Stephen “Steve” George Modory, 67, loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away at home in Barberton on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Steve was born in Akron, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene (Baughman), his father, John George Modory and his mother, Oca Ruth Modory. He was raised in Akron, Ohio and attended Valley Forge Christian College where he received his BA in ministerial studies. Steve is survived by his loving son, Stephen Lee Modory, Stephen's wife Kathleen, and two grandchildren, Jackson and Annabelle; his sisters, Connie (Peter) Holcombe and Amy Christy; his brother, Terry (Nancy) Modory; nieces, Tara, Amanda, Lauren and Bethany; nephews Jim and Andrew; along with their spouses and families. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Yerman, Janet Baughman and Sharma (Greg) Carris. Steve loved his family and was devoted to his son Steve and wife and grandchildren. He traveled to McAllen, Texas at least once a year to see sisters, Amy and Connie & brother-in-law Peter. Steve and his brother, Terry enjoyed much time together and with Terry's extended family during holidays. Steve loved his friends at The Chapel -- the singles' group, Sunday Bible Fellowship and the choir. At Christmas he was celebrated by family and friends for the homemade Hungarian nutrolls that he shared so generously. He was known for his compassion, the sole caretaker at home of his wife, Darlene during her struggle with ALS for several years. He then joined The Chapel's grief share group and later became a facilitator. An avid sports fan, he helped name the Rubber Ducks minor league baseball team, attending their inaugural games in 2014. Upon retirement Steve became a ticket taker for the team, enjoying still more games. Steve recently joined Majestic Voice choral group. Steve's faith in Jesus Christ was precious to him. So while we will miss him, we celebrate his home going. Steve’s family will receive friends and family on Sunday June 4, 2023 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203. Steve’s funeral service will be held on Monday, June 5th at 1 p.m., with Pastor Bob Schneider officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
