Susanna “Sue” Kurtz, 103, of Barberton passed on Friday, Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2021 at Pleasant View Health Care Center after brief complications of Covid. Sue was born on October 24, 1918 in Homer City, Pennsylvania to the late John and Anna (Washile) O’Hara. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Barberton. In years past, Sue was a member of St. Nicholas Altar Society, she enjoyed cooking and baking with the ladies of the parish and also with several members of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church in Akron. In December of 2020 she received the St. Nicholas Award for her years of service. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Kurtz of 77 years; their son, Patrick; granddaughter, Cindi Beal (nee Haring) along with all her siblings; many other relatives and lots of friends. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Havericak and Suzie (Roger) Haring; son, Michael; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends. Sue’s funeral service will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 1051 Robinson Ave., Barberton, the Rev. Miron Kerul’-Kmec officiating. She’ll be laid to rest next to her husband, Nick at St. Nicholas Cemetery following the Liturgy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
