Sylvietta Ruth Allen

Sylvietta “Ruth” Allen, 102, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 in Copley, Ohio. She was born May 14, 1922 in Barberton, Ohio. Ruth was a “Rosie the Riviter” in World War II at Firestone and she received recognition in a special ceremony held at Barberton’s Lake Anna War Memorial in 2009. In 2022 Barberton Mayor Judge presented her with a Proclamation from the City of Barberton at her 100th birthday party. She loved taking care of her family, gardening, canning, baking nut rolls, making her own famous Barberton hot sauce, quilting and taking trips with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin Allen; sons, James Kunstek and Richard Kunstek; grandson, Scott L. Allen; parents, Edward M. Schwiger and Vietti C. (nee Gifford) Schwiger. Ruth is survived by sons, Larry (Dee) Allen of Muncie, Indiana, Robert F. II (Patricia K.) Allen of Copley, Ohio and daughter, Cindy L. Sheffer of Barlow, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kimberly (Robert) Michaels of St. Petersburgh, Florida, James (Paula) Kunstek of Port Ritchey, Florida; Sarah Erickson of Florida, Lorie R. (Daniel) D’Andrea of Muncie, Indiana, Jennifer L. (David) Stafford of Norton, Ohio and Robert F. Allen III of Norton, Angie Lee of Simpson, Illinois, Ralph Lee and Crystal Johnson both of  Metropolis, Illinois; 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Cleveland Clinic Hospice and the staff at Concordia Memmer House for all the care that Ruth received. Ruth’s funeral service will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203 with Rev. Rod Grabski officiating.  Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of her service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Concordia at Sumner Memmer House.
