Thomas “Tom” E. Black, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. He was born in Barberton on March 7, 1948 and was a graduate of Barberton High School, Class of 1966. Tom was employed at Akron Rubber Grinding for 20 years before moving to California where he was employed by Atlos Rubber Grinding for 15 years. He was an inventor of aftermarket motor cycle transmissions and kick starts for Harley Davidsons at his company, Granny’s Tranny’s. He moved back to Doylestown in 1990 and was then employed by Fresh Mark as a truck driver and served as union steward for Teamsters Local #92, retiring in 2012 to play in his barn and make wine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry A. Black and Rosa Patterson. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years, Dona; daughter, Dana (Marc) Davis; granddaughter, Sidney B.; sisters, Harriet (Donald, dec.) Weckbacher, Theresa (Brian, dec.) King, Evelyn (Tom) Miguel and Jackie (Gene) Azevedo; brothers, Roland (Priscilla) Hall and David Hall; numerous nieces and nephews and a “Boat Load of Friends”. Tom’s family will receive friends and family on Saturday, May 14th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203.
