Violet "Vi" Price Obituary

Lifelong Barberton resident Vi Ingram Price, born May 17, 1927, passed away at home on Monday, December 28, 2020. Vi was in every way an exceptional person—charismatic, creative, intelligent, resilient, and very capable. She always lived life on her own terms. She grew up during the Depression, one of six children. She was a teenager when WWII began and remembered when people spilled into the streets of Barberton to celebrate VJ Day. She was proud of the Army service of her three brothers, and was an active member of VFW Auxiliary, Post 4466. After the war she worked at the San Diego Music Company, playing record requests from restaurants and night clubs with her voice also being heard by the Pacific Fleet. Vi’s love of music began early, and Brady/Lee family gatherings often included singing in multi-part harmony. With her rich alto voice, “Aunt Vi” continued singing well into her 70s, performing at area venues with friend Bobbie and Bud Grabbe’s band, The Roadrunners. In 2002 she was honored by the Disabled American Veterans Post 35 with a plaque reading “Aunt Vi, your singing has caused us to dance, has caused us to cry, and caused us to love you. Stay as beautiful as you are.” Vi worked for 14 years at the Gardner Pie Company before becoming Barberton’s first-ever meter maid in 1967, a post she held for 10 years. She was active in the U.L. Light Junior High School PTA and the Boy Scouts, and was a leader in Democratic politics, serving as secretary of the Summit County Democratic Executive Committee and twice as president of the Barberton Women’s Democratic Club.  She was also an officer with FOPA Lodge 18, a police auxiliary organization. She was preceded in death by parents Cary and Dorothy Brady; husband Philip Price and former husband James Ingram; brothers Gene and Harold Brady and sisters Evelyn Wilkinson and Delores (Tootie) Erickson; survived by brother Robert C. Brady, children, Maryellen (Franko) Schonover, LeAnn Fields, Charles (Cindy) Ingram, and Thomas (Bonnie) Ingram; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, both in the U.S. and Canada. She will also be dearly missed by members of the Harold Starcher family, especially honorary (with distinction) granddaughter Tina Banfield Boggs, and by her many friends. Special thanks to Bonnie Ingram for the loving care she provided Vi for the past five+ years. A private service by invitation ONLY will be held for her family and friends at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Contact her son, Tom for entry. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Barberton VFW Post #1066, 85 Sixth Street, N.W., Barberton, Ohio 44203 to help with expenses of repairs to the club, due to a recent fire.
