Walsine “Walt” Hudson Pierce died Monday, November 7, 2022 at the age of 91. Walt was born to the late Levia and William Pierce on March 31, 1931, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Henry and William Ray; sisters, Victoria and Elizabeth, and infant granddaughter, Jordan Johnson. Walt is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Julia Pierce, his children Mark (Mary Kay) Pierce of Mansfield, Todd (Amy) Pierce of Mason, Kimberly Burke (James) of Massillon, stepdaughter Jackie Goch (Kent) of Clinton, and stepson Randy Mick (Jennifer) of Medina. He also leaves to cherish his memory 15 grandchildren Jennifer Carrick of Mt. Gilead, Jonathan Pierce (Bethany) of Galion, Jessica Johnson (Dave) of Lexington, Jillian Vincent (Tim) of Dayton, Bethany Pierce of Ashville, NC, David Pierce (Avery) of Fredericktown, Christy McCarthy (Mike) of West Chester, Riley Boggs of Burbank, CA, Delaney Boggs of Massillon; Elizabeth Boggs of Clinton, Chelsea Johnson of Barberton, Breanna Hardesty (Carl) of Akron, Jillian Johnson of Barberton, Eric Mick of Medina, Emily Mick of Medina, and 25 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by many extended family members and friends, most notably Donna Street, who devoted her life to Walt’s care. Walt was a 1948 graduate of Point Pleasant High School where he played football and boxed competitively. Following graduation, he joined the Navy and served our country for nearly five years before being honorably discharged. He worked at Seiberling Tire in Barberton for 27 years and earned multiple promotions up to the position of Industrial Manager until the plant’s closing in 1980. Undaunted, Walt began a new career later that year as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch in Canton, later moving to Prudential Bache prior to his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Easton First United Methodist Church where he started a dining club 18 years ago that is still active today. Walt enjoyed traveling the world, reading books on his Kindle, watching college football – especially The Ohio State Buckeyes, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Navy Midshipmen (Go Navy, Beat Army!) –, baking the best pies in the world, and telling countless stories. Above everything else, however: Walt loved his family. And they loved and treasured him beyond measure. Calling hours will be held at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, tell your husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend that you love them. “I am the master of my fate, the captain of my soul” – Henley.
